As the name might suggest, Softpedia is a website centered around downloading software. It hosts tens of thousands of different applications, including freeware, trialware, and retail software downloads. These are available for various desktop operating systems as well as mobile devices.
The website is fairly popular with software developers, perhaps because they are not required to create an account to upload their software. If you’re looking for the latest application updates, checking up on Softpedia regularly might be a good idea.
All sorts of software are available, from Windows and Mac to Linux and mobile OS. Softpedia also has one of the biggest online games selections that we have come across so far.
Moreover, Softpedia posts many news and updates from the tech world. The main website features the latest headlines, while the news site provides actual stories that cover software, video games, music, movies, and other stuff.
Organizing tens of thousands of downloadable software can be quite intimidating. However, Softpedia is easy to navigate thanks to a big search bar just at the top of the page. It is quite handy if you know what you are looking for, but if you’re just exploring, the links at the top will allow you to sort software by OS or platform. You will also be able to look through the most downloaded applications charts.
Advanced search settings are also present, but they are somewhat confusing. Let’s say you’re looking for software that is specific to a certain operating system. First, you have to click the OS button at the top of the page and then use the search bar to find the software type needed. For example, you would click on Windows and search for “DVD burning software”. Useful as it is, there are no hint prompts that could enlighten users about these kinds of searches.
Is it safe?
Every piece of software is tested for spyware, malware, and viruses upon submission. We have not encountered any infected applications on the website, but there are a few posts online that mention users having issues, so it’s best to be cautious.
What if I need help?
Softpedia provides an email address that can be contacted for any customer support needs. Additionally, the FAQ section may answer your questions quicker. When we tested the user support email, it took about a week or so before we had gotten a response.
Whatever type of software you are looking for, you will be able to find it among Softpedia’s large assortment of applications. Downloads are available across various platforms and operating systems, and are often reviewed by users and editors. We have not encountered any harmful software, but with Internet being as it is, it’s probably best to stay on your toes just in case.
